The Friends of the Cumberland Public Library is a not-for-profit membership organization of people who appreciate what a treasure our library is to our community. Its mission is to support it both within the library walls and out in the community. Established in 1973, we are one of thousands of Friends of the Library associations across the country. We are governed by an Advisory Board that meets once a month, September through June.
The Bookstore at the Hayden Center
Some members become active volunteers who work in the Friends' Bookstore. The Bookstore sells nothing for more than a dollar and is an outstanding resource for readers from all over the area. Now in its 14th year, the bookstore is stronger than ever, a true community resource. Check out our Bookstore page.
What kinds of things do the Friends support?
The Friends pay for some of the outside entertainers, educators, and programs the Library offers as well as many internal programs, especially for children and teens. We also purchase needed equipment that might not be available to patrons otherwise. Museum Passes to outstanding area attractions are paid for by the Friends and offer library patrons free or discounted entrance fees to many venues.
What can I do to support the Friends?
Become a member: You can pick up membership forms at the Library or at our bookstore. You can also do so by following this link to a membership form. A benefit of membership is receiving the Monastery Reader, once a year with its information about the Friends, library programs, special events, and new services at that Library.
