Erik faces a sudden change in his life. His parents are called over to assist the Army in training soldiers but Erik cannot live alone, so he moves from New York to North Dakota. With his grandparents, he doesn’t find satisfaction, but does learn that there is a secret room across the hall…which leads to why his grandparents are sad. His passion for a dog he finds leads him on an adventure in the woods…where he must hunt to survive. The ending to this astounding book leaves me bittersweet, but I loved how the author shows how much a dog can influence a person and how everything happens for a reason. I am truly glad that I read this book.
