Watersmeet by Ellen Jensen Abbott

Abisina is outcast in the village of Vranille, because her dark hair and skin are unlike the ideal coloring of fair hair and skin and blue eyes that the villages so idolize. The only reason that Abisina was allowed to live was because her mother is the village healer. One day, a powerful new leader named Charach comes into the village and tells the people they must eliminate the outcasts. Abisina barely escapes with her life and sets out to find the father-and the home-she has never known, in a mysterious town called Watersmeet. This book is a powerful fantasy that teaches lessons, about independence, acceptance and trust. It is truly a great read.
