The Cumberland Public Library challenges families to unplug their televisions during TV Turnoff Week, April 20-24, 2009! To help families meet this challenge the Children’s Room is very excited to offer a wide array of fun activities for the week. Families are welcome to attend each of the activities offered that pertain to the ages of their children. The schedule is as follows: Monday, April 20, 2009 Sleepytime Storytime 6:45-7:15 p.m. A drop-in storytime for children ages 3-6. No registration required. Tuesday, April 21, 2009 Celebrate Kindergarten Day, 9:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m. If you are currently in Kindergarten or will be entering Kindergarten in the Fall of 2009, stop by the Children’s Room and pick up your free book. Wednesday, April 22, 2009 Family BINGO, 6:30-7:15 p.m. *FREE tickets in the Children’s Room beginning Monday, April 13, 2009. Thursday, April 23, 2009 Open Art, 6:00-7:30 p.m. A drop-in craft program for children ages 4-12, featuring recycled materials to celebrate Earth Day. No registration required. Friday, April 24, 2009 Library Treasure Chest, 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Stop by the Children’s Room and select a library trivia challenge. Upon completing the trivia challenge you will receive a prize from the Treasure Chest. This activity is for children ages 4-12. The Children’s Room is pleased to participate in this nationwide campaign which raises public awareness about the effects of too much screen time. It also provides a great opportunity for children and families to spend less time in front of the television and video games and adopt a healthier way of life.
