This month, the Cumberland Public Library’s monthly movie discussion group called the Saturday Second Screenings will be meeting on Saturday, September 22 at 2:00 pm. Anyone who is a movie buff will be drawn into this forum. Participants will watch the film at the start of each session and then discuss various elements from it.
This month’s selection is It Happened One Night. An unhappy heiress (Claudette Colbert) falls for a news reporter (Clark Gable) she meets on a bus trip across America. Equal sense of screwball humor and depression America are skillfully intertwined in the film’s love story. The film dispensed with traditional studio sets to show the real America of buses, highways, and motels. One of the most popular comedies of the ‘30s and winner of five major Academy Awards®.
The forum is moderated by Patricia McIvor. She is a resident of Smithfield who writes a column for Your Smithfield Magazine entitled “Second Screenings,” which introduces readers to a new classic film in each issue. While Ms. McIvor believes she is more of an enthusiast than an expert, her college background includes some coursework in film history and appreciation.
Those interested in registering for the program or to ask questions about the series can call the library at 333-2552 x2 or can email Aaron at email@example.com.
