3….2….1 Blast-off! Reach for your Dreams & Read for a Wish, with the Cumberland Library Children’s Room and the “Make-A-Wish” foundation this summer. The Cumberland Public Library’s 2012 Children’s Summer Reading Program, “Dream Big…Read” is about to blast off into the library solar system! Children of preschool age through sixth grade are invited to join us as we discover a world of books, attend fabulous storytimes and live performances, create unique crafts and more. Most activities are free and open to the public all summer long!
This summer the Cumberland Library Children’s Room is partnering with The Make-A-Wish of Mass/RI Foundation, for a reading incentive charity event titled “READ FOR A WISH”. For the reading portion of the program, the children are asked to sign a Reading Star Literacy Log/Contractto participate, read or complete literacy activities. As an added activity children may donate .25 for each book read to our “Wish Kids” charity bank. All funds will be donated to terminally ill children in RI to grant them their special wish! A drop-in, Make-A-Wish information session will be held from 11-11:30am and 11:30-noon on June 23, 2012.
Children who have completed their reading contracts by Friday, August 10, 2012 will be able to pick up their reading log, award and prizes during our Star Readers Celebration, which will be held on August 16, 2012.
What a great way involve your family in an important charity event and to keep your children reading this summer!
Registration for this fabulous program begins June 23, 2012 in the Children’s Room.
The statewide Rhode Island Summer Reading Program is sponsored by the RI Office of Library and Information Services with funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the Pawtucket Red Sox, Citizens Bank and Pepsi. Local support includes RI Children’s and Young Adult Librarians and the Cumberland Library Friends Group.
