During the month of October, Lauren Gorman of North Providence will be presenting her oil paintings on canvas and charcoal drawings in the Library’s Hayden Art Gallery for an exhibit. The exhibit will be accessible on the second floor whenever the library is open. As part of the exhibit, the library will be hosting an artist meet and greet on Saturday, October 28 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm.
Gorman was born and raised in Rhode Island. She is a graduate of Assumption College with a bachelor's degree in graphic design. She started her college career as a pre-med major. As part of that program, she had to take art as an elective for my major. In that art class, she found herself spending more time in the art studio than the chemistry lab, which encouraged her to change her major. From that moment on, art became the focus of her life. Over the years, Gorman has had the chance to work with many talented individuals and see some of the most beautiful art from around the world. She is thankful for every opportunity that has come my way.
Now, Gorman works for the Community College of Rhode Island bookstore, where she maintains the store’s website and helping students. After work, she grabs her paint and brushes and starts the next piece of artwork. Looking at the approaching exhibit entitled “Playlist” at the library, she reflected “having my own show is my biggest dream becoming a reality. I want to thank my family, my boyfriend, and my friends for all they have done to help me get to this point. I could not have done this without you and I love you all.”
For Gorman, her “art is a reflection of the songs that are coming through my headphones. That was my inspiration for this show, every piece was created with a song in mind.”
